A devastating train accident on Tuesday morning claimed the life of 24-year-old Khaliq Hunter in Rocky Mount, Eastern Carolina.
The Rocky Mount Police Department received a call about the incident shortly after 10:30 a.m.
Authorities reported that Hunter was struck by an Amtrak train at the intersection of Main and Goldleaf streets, a busy area known for frequent rail traffic.
When officers arrived, they discovered Hunter’s body several hundred feet north of the railroad crossing. Despite immediate response from emergency services, Hunter was pronounced dead at the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the accident remain under investigation. Preliminary reports suggest that Hunter was near the tracks when the train approached, though it is unclear if he was aware of its arrival. Investigators are working to determine whether factors such as distractions or other conditions may have contributed to the tragic event.
