In the early hours of Monday morning, January 20, 2025, a tragic incident unfolded at the American Hearth Inn, located at 3935 Richland Ave. W. in Aiken, South Carolina. Nyasia Dowling, a 25-year-old woman from Aiken, was found deceased in one of the motel rooms following reports of gunfire.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to the situation at approximately 4:41 a.m. when a call about shots fired was received. Responding to the scene, deputies discovered Dowling with at least one gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel at 5:15 a.m.

The Aiken County Coroner, Darryl Ables, confirmed that Dowling’s body would undergo an autopsy in Newberry to further ascertain the cause of death and to collect additional forensic evidence that could shed light on the events leading up to the shooting.
