DJ Uptown Decibel Death – Gurvinder Uppal Obituary – Gurvinder Uppal killed in gang-related shooting in Delta, B.C., police say

In a tragic incident in Delta, B.C., a man who was critically injured in a gang-related shooting on January 19, 2025, has died in the hospital. The Delta Police Department (DPD) confirmed the death of 29-year-old Gurvinder Uppal, a local resident, who was the victim of what authorities have classified as a targeted attack. The shooting occurred early in the morning on Monday, and it marks the first homicide in Delta in 2025. Notably, Delta had no recorded homicides throughout the previous year, 2024.

The shooting took place in the 8100-block of 112B Street in Delta at around 7:18 a.m. PT. The police were quick to respond to reports of gunfire and found a man suffering from serious injuries. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds. Investigators are now treating the case as a homicide, with the DPD’s major crime unit taking over the investigation. While police have refrained from releasing extensive details, they have emphasized that the shooting appears to be gang-related.

In connection with the shooting, a white Ford pickup truck was found set on fire shortly after the incident, located at the 7300 block of Blake Drive, not far from the crime scene. Police believe this vehicle is tied to the shooting, although further details about its involvement remain under investigation. The DPD’s initial assessment indicates that this was likely a gang-related event, with the shooting possibly tied to ongoing conflicts within the criminal underworld. Investigators have made it clear that they do not believe the incident was a random attack or directed at the public.

The DPD has extended its condolences to the family and loved ones of Gurvinder Uppal, recognizing the trauma and grief caused by this loss. The police also took the opportunity to reassure the public that the investigation is ongoing and that they are committed to finding those responsible for the crime. Given the nature of the shooting, authorities are particularly focused on determining any potential connections to gang violence in the area, which has been a concern in B.C. for several years due to a rise in organized criminal activity.

The Delta Police Department is urging anyone with information about the shooting or the involved vehicle to come forward. They have provided two ways for the public to assist in the investigation: individuals can contact the DPD directly at 604-940-7321, or they can leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. The hope is that by gathering more information, the police can piece together the details surrounding the shooting and identify those responsible.
