Alexis Schuler Obituary, Cause of Death: Missing Washington D.C Woman, Alexis Schuler Found Dead

On January 19, 2025, the Prince George’s County Police Department’s (PGPD) Homicide Unit arrested 30-year-old Devontae Gray of Capitol Heights for the murder of his girlfriend, 29-year-old Alexis Schuler of Washington, DC. Gray faces charges of first-degree murder and related offenses following a tragic series of events that culminated in the discovery of Schuler’s remains inside Gray’s residence.

The investigation began on January 18, 2025, when the Washington Metropolitan Police Department (MPDC) sought assistance from PGPD in a missing persons case involving Schuler. She had been reported missing to MPDC the previous week. Acting on this request, PGPD executed a search warrant the following day at Gray’s home, located in the 700 block of Larchmont Avenue in Capitol Heights.

During the search, PGPD detectives, along with evidence teams and members of the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department, located Schuler’s remains concealed within the residence. Preliminary findings revealed that Gray had made significant efforts to hide the victim’s body. Following an examination by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, it was confirmed that Schuler had died from a gunshot wound.

Gray was taken into custody at the scene and subsequently confessed to the murder. Initial findings by investigators suggest that the killing occurred during a domestic dispute between the two. Following his arrest, Gray was charged with first-degree murder and other related offenses. He remains in custody at the Department of Corrections as the investigation continues.

This case underscores the collaborative efforts between regional law enforcement agencies. MPDC initiated the investigation as a missing persons case, while PGPD’s Homicide Unit took charge of the subsequent murder investigation after Schuler’s body was discovered. PGPD continues to oversee investigations of all homicides occurring within the town of Capitol Heights.

Authorities have emphasized the importance of community involvement in solving cases of this nature. Individuals with any information related to this case are encouraged to contact the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 301-516-2512. Meanwhile, inquiries regarding MPDC’s initial missing persons investigation should be directed to that agency.
