Kaleb Halsey Bowdoinham, ME Obituary, Cause of Death; In Loving Memory of Bowdoinham, ME resident died in Woolwich Police chase crash
A police pursuit on River Road (Route 128) in Woolwich tragically ended in a fatal crash late Monday night, January 14, 2025.
Kaleb Halsey, a 20-year-old resident of Bowdoinham, lost control of his vehicle while fleeing from a Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s deputy.
The chase began around 10:00 p.m. after the deputy reportedly attempted to stop Halsey for a traffic violation. The pursuit turned deadly near Days Ferry, where Halsey’s vehicle struck a granite post, veered into a ditch, and collided with a telephone pole. The impact ejected him from the vehicle.
Emergency responders transported Halsey to Maine Medical Center in Portland with critical injuries, but he succumbed to his wounds early Tuesday morning.
The crash site remained closed overnight as investigators from the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office and the Maine State Police reconstructed the incident. The road was reopened to traffic at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday.
Authorities are still examining the events leading up to the chase. It remains unclear why Halsey attempted to evade the deputy.
The incident has left the Bowdoinham and Woolwich communities in shock. Friends and family members have expressed their grief on social media, remembering Halsey as a young man with a bright future ahead of him.
Local law enforcement has reiterated the dangers of high-speed pursuits and urged drivers to comply with traffic stops for the safety of all involved.
